EMMY HIGHLIGHTS (AND LOWLIGHTS)

- My favorite Desperate Housewive won for Outstandin Actress in a Comedy. Felicity Huffman, who plays Lynette. It was totally unexpected. Everyone thought Teri Hatcher was going to win.

-Donald Trump in overalls will haunt me for the rest of my life.

-Ellen, who I usually love, didn't do such a great job hosting the Emmys. She was okay.

-Peter Boyle, who plays the old guy on Everybody Loves Raymond, didn't win. He's been nominated like ten years in a row and never won. Everyone in my family was so upset that he didn't win!!! Everyone in my family is a fan of Everybody Loves Raymond. I think it's the only show that we ALL agree on.

-My mom was laughing sooo hard when that women lost her acceptance speech somewhere between her boobs!

- Jon Stewart was hilarious!!! -- "George Bush hates black - Sabbath" < Best line.

-They picked Dave Letterman to do the Johnny Carson tribute instead of Jay Leno. Haha! Serves him right!

-I loved seeing Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw. I really miss Peter Jennings.

- Also- I have no life, whatsoever!

Lemme tell ya: Junior year is pretty darn stressful. I'm going to sleep MUCH later than last year and I take naps in the afternoon like some old woman. I yawn about 62 times a day.

So much happening....

I just found out that the Sweet 16 party I'm going to is open-bar. That's just what I need : To see a bunch of my friends get totally plastered. It figures, though. The person who is having the party's parents got the open bar for their friends, which is totally stupid. Are they totally oblivious to the fact that all these kids are gonna get absolutley wasted? Also, their daughter is apparently one of the the biggest under-age drinkers at our school. She's a good friend of mine, but the truth is the truth. I won't be drinking. I can promise you that. The only time I've ever drank alcohol has been in the presence of at least my dad. He lets me sip or finish off his stuff if there is a little left. I just hope the party doesn't get too out of control.

I have tons of stuff to do. Tests, a mediation tomorrow (i get to miss third period for it!!!!), and a AP US charty-thing.

Must be off.

My first week back at school is officially over.

It's Friday. School started Tuesday.

Tuesday: I have an anxiety attack in the morning. We finally get to school. In homeroom, there is hugging and yelling and distributing of scheduals. After a little bit, I have to leave to go to the office to make the morning announcements. When Mr. C sees me, he's asks me how my summer was. I tell him that it was fine and that I was a little worried about the SAT's. He pinches my cheek and tells me not to worry because I'm smart. Does that count as molestation? Kidding. I love that guy, as gross as he is. Classes are okay. My gym period is full of every single Abercrombie kid ('popular' people). I was quite upset. Math teacher sounded boring. 'You and the Law' was interesting. I have the coolest chemistry teacher. Jyothi and I have three consecutive classes together - SCORE. English Class: Guess where my seat is? Next to the teacher's desk, facing the rest of the class. Teacher had a weird seating idea, and told me the the only place she could possibly seat me was next to her. I hate having a last name that starts with V. I'm always last. History is the coolest thing! I ride home with Neil, my brother, and Avnish. Turns out that next semester, me and Ashish have a class TOGETHER!!!! HELP!!!!!!

Wednesday: French is boring. Math is boring. Overcrowded lunch table. Chem is fun. We all hate Jane Eyre. First time taking notes in AP US 2. I wrote soo fast.

Thursday: Basically the same as Wednesday. Everyone hates Jane Eyre. More notes. *yawn*

Friday: Quiz in AP US. Mr. C called me dependable. I got invited to a sweet sixteen party.

I'm way to tired to do anything.

This morning, I woke up a little late for a Sunday. I woke up at 10:00 (yes, for me, that's considered late). I didn't even get out of bed until like 10:30 because I turned on the radio and caught the last half of a countdown of the top ten Rolling Stones songs. So I just layed in bed, listening. I was quite upset that "Paint it Black" only got No. 2 and not 1. No. 1 was "Sympathy for the Devil".

After taking a shower, my mom made me make a list of last-minute things I need for school. Heading said list is a very, bery, basic need: shoes. That's right, I have NO shoes. This summer, I've been wearing slippers and flip-flops. Tomorrow I'm getting my dream shoes!!! Converse All-Stars!

http://www.ladyfootlocker.com/catalog/productdetail.cfm?TID=5555-57040523412357230921405-0&module=productDetail&action=view&sku=9166&model_nbr=22920&supercat=brands&id=0&mvp=

It's weird that they're called men's shoes. Girls wear it. Should be unisex. I'm getting them in either brown, blue, or black. I have yet to decide. I've been wanting them for sooo long, but they're like 40 bucks so it was out of my price range for a while. Now I can buy 'em!!!

I also saw this amazing documentary on Stem-Cell Research. It's absolutley incredible what they can do with them. Almost ANYTHING.

School starts day after tomorrow. Freaked out. I still have to clean out my bookbag. Who know's what crap I'll find in there....

Can't wait to see people. But I'm terrified!!!!!!!!!

I come back from work for ONE day, and apparently I have to go back tonight for another 3 days! It's so far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what gets me excited? School supplies! I love shopping for them. There's just something about buying colorful book covers, one inch-binders, pens, folders and notebook paper that makes me happy. While purchasing said products, I always vow to make this year better then the last. I promise to study harder, be less lazy and do all my homework.

Yeah, right. Like that'll ever happen. It's a very fleeting thought of determination. Just comes and goes, really.. :)

Anyway, I haven't bought anything yet. Just waiting for it all to go on sale.

Jane Eyre is getting better. It's pretty much a bore though. I prefer American Lit to Brit Lit. 1984 was an exception. It was amazing. Made me veeeeeeerrrrrrrrry paranoid for a while. I was comparing the events in the book to what was going on in Guantanamo Bay, and the Patriot Act, and the Iraq shit. I was pretty freaked out because all of the things that this guy predicted came true, in a way, even if we aren't exactly living in a totalitarian society.

Hopefully, when we discuss it in class, people won't think I'm a crazy freakazoid.

I know what you're thinking : Too late.

Highlights of my nonstop-working-weekend at the hotel:

Some 50 year old man dressed only in his bathrobe who was either drunk or high and had a thick accent of some sort said to me "I hope you go to college because you are very beautiful". Yep, he was definitely intoxicated and suffering from blurry and distorted vision.

Ringing up condoms was definitely my most uncomfortable moment. I was giggling on the inside. I'm so imature.

Sneaking cups of black coffee that my mom hates was fun. Most people my age sneak liquor and I get coffee. Nice.

Drooling over the yummy salads.

Being on my feet for hours was exhausting.

Your Summer Anthem is Speed of Sound by Coldplay

All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found.
And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.

You're out of your mind this summer, in a good way.

I love Coldplay. I listen to 'Speed Of Sound' all the time. Very mellow.

You're The Catcher in the Rye!

by J.D. Salinger

You are surrounded by phonies, and boy are you sick of them! In an
ongoing struggle to search for a land without phonies, you end up running away from
everything, from school to consequences. In this process, you reveal that many people
in your life have suffered torments and all you really want to do is catch them as
they fall. Perhaps using a baseball mitt. Your biggest fans are infamous
psychotics.

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Stangely, I think it kind of fits. Holden is messed up, and so am I (but not so much that I hire hookers and don't sleep with them). I actaully liked this book. Pretty fun read.

"Dear Mr. Vernon,
We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was that we did wrong. What we did WAS wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write this essay telling you who we think we are. What do you care? You see us as you want to see us...in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. You see us as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal. Correct? That's the way we saw each other at seven o'clock this morning. We were brainwashed. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question?
Sincerely yours,
The Breakfast Club"

It's Friday and also my first day of our 'Spring Recess' which, by the way, is only 4 days long (some break, huh?).

This week was pretty okay. On Monday, I did the morning announcments for the very first time. My hands were shaking like crazy, and I could barely hold the paper with the announcements written on it! I pulled it off though, and people said I was good. My public speaking teacher (who is the advisor for the people who do the announcements) picked me to do them because all the current announcers are seniors and are going off to college next year. That's a scary thought. Ususally, there's a girl announcer and a guy announcer. He hasn't found a guy for next year. If I have to do them every single day next year, I'll just die.

Well, I must be off. I have to do a report on Ted Turner (yes, he's the CNN guy).

I went to a homeless shelter yesterday. One of the most humbling experiences of my life. One of the clubs that I'm in had to go and take care of all the kids there for a while.

I was helping this one boy, David, color a picture of a rainbow. He was around 3 or 4. I noticed that he had the most beautiful pair of lips I had ever seen. They were so red and naturally shiny. His tiny sweatshirt was a little grimy and stuff and he had a couple scars on his face. He couldn't speak any English. In fact, barely any of the younger kids could speak English, just Spanish. I swear, 75% of the people at the shelter was Hispanic.

Anyway, being around the kids was one thing, but being around the adults was another. You could see a kind of look of optimism on their faces. They were chatting, reading, laughing happily even though they didn't have real homes or jobs or anything. I really can't described how I felt.

Holden Caulfield is NOT cynical. If you don't understand that you shouldn't be allowed to read any sort of book. Like, ever. It makes me so angry. I really don't know why. I hate when people don't look beyond the surface. I'll agree that Holden IS a hypocrite, but then again, who isn't? Whether we want to admit, or not, we've ALL talked about people behind our backs. We've ALL lied. Just admit it rather than pretend to live in utopia.

Oh, and then this girl at my lunch table says she thinks the book shouldn't be allowed to be read in school because "it teaches us that swearing is okay". Well go fuck yourself you little piece of shit, conformist. I bet you have a sticker in your locker that says 'I (heart) censorship' That's NOT what the book is about. The story is a freaking anthem, though a teensy bit extreme. I have never seen a book so raw, so real. I'm sooooo pissed off. ARGHHHHH I'm so angry with people who don't get 'The Catcher In the Rye'. I felt so empowered.

I don't love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of caranations that propogate fire;
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn't bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body
lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I don't know any other way of loving
but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

-Pablo Neruda
